How Strong We Are
1/13/12 New Music Video
Mark Rose and I got to know each other a few years back in his days with Spitalfield. Recently we got to together and discussed collaborating on a project. He has a brand new solo record out, and wanted to promote the song “How Strong We Are”. The song really speaks to strength in tough times, and specifically for this video, the daily grind of life and work. We captured a raw look at union workers, street performers, retail/fast food employees, the homeless, stock brokers, and all around business professionals. I decided to shoot everything in a “over the shoulder” and handheld look to add some uneasiness. It was a total of 3 days shooting in ICE COLD Chicago winter. Locations included Downtown Chicago, Logan Square, Pilsin, and Millenium Park.
In post production I kept the cold look throughout the color grading process. I pushed the shadows and midtones to blue, and raised the highlights to a warmer yellow.
Check out Mark’s album Wonder Trouble, on iTunes. It’s so good!
Wedding
1/11/12 HAPPY NEW YEAR!
On New Years Eve, my good friends Mark and Elaine got married in Galena, IL at Turner Hall. The venue was beautiful, and the atmosphere was marvelous! It was a pleasure to film.
Thanks to Jonathan Richert for the superb lighting, and Joe Martin for operating the second camera.
The song is called ‘Darling I Do’ by Landon Pigg and Lucy Schwartz.
Alain Locke Charter School
1/5/12 Alain Locke Charter School
This past holiday season I had the opportunity to work on a mini documentary about a terrific charter school in Garfield Park Chicago called Alain Locke. SWC Technology Partners and Microsoft have donated very large sums of money to the school’s computer and technology infrastructure. They wanted to document the story of the school, kids, and the future with new technology. I shot the entire piece on a Canon 60D, and used a Zoom H4N with boom mic for sound. Happy New Year!
9/13/11 Choice
This past summer I took part in a Creative Live editing contest which featured footage from Vincent Laforets workshop. Over 100 editors entered the contest, and ultimately I won! Here is what Vincent had to say about my edit:
“(Aaron’s) edit spoke directly to the power of editing in my opinion – Aaron did a fantastic job of restructuring the scene and emphasizing the best part of each performance. (Aaron’s edit) managed to keep me completely engaged – even after having seen this footage time after time again!”
